Trailer for ‘Our Friend’ Promises a Heartfelt Tearjerker

First seen in September 2019 at TIFF, the film will release in January.

Based on a 2015 article of nearly the same name by Matthew Teague, the film adaptation — Our Friend — boasts an A-list cast and offers plenty to cry about. Premiering way back at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, the movie is finally set for release in January 2021.

Teague’s article delves into the most abominable elements of death and suffering — the stuff typically avoided in conversation, much less the movies. It’s these things that director Gabriela Cowperthwaite and writer Brad Ingelsby steer clear of, to the chagrin of some critics. Nonetheless, this true story of a best friend (Jason Segel) who moves in with the couple (Casey Affleck and Dakota Johnson) he adores after her terminal cancer diagnosis, is one that left many others who saw it profoundly moved.
